Doorstep gigs to connect distanced communities
The Advent Sessions launched in December 2020 in response to the ongoing pandemic, heightening of restrictions and a desire to support musicians and spread festive cheer. It brought neighbours together for a series of 15 doorstep gigs in the lead up to Christmas, allowing live music created by the community, to be performed for the community, all from the security and warmth of your home.

Scheduled in and around the Hanover community of Brighton, audiences of close neighbours were invited to throw open a door or window and enjoy a performance for the road.
'I've been isolating for a year. Hearing music on my doorstep lifted my spirit.'

Sing Along
On the 18th December - The Choir With No Name will be singing at 11am in the Royal Spa Gardens, Queens Park. Feel free to sing along and use this wordsheet below.
For those of you that have enjoyed a moment of live music, please consider donating. There will be collection buckets and a card reader with our stewards or you can do so via our just giving link (or by scanning this QR code).

Donations will be split between participating artists, many of whom have still not seen a return to normal levels of work since the pandemic started, the Hummingbird Project and the work of Flock Theatre Makers funding free community arts and music events across Brighton & Hove.

We have considered the audience's enjoyment of these sessions with the latest government COVID guidance, restrictions and latest news in mind. As an outdoor performance, the risk of COVID transmission is much reduced. However due to the current landscape of the coronavirus pandemic, and the introduction of the omicron variant we have made the decision to keep these gigs small and intimate. They are designed for closest neighbours as a treat for the street. They are intended for a limited capacity and we ask audience to follow some simple steps, for yours and everyone else's safety:

  • If you have had any Covid symptoms (high temperature, a new continuous cough, a loss/change of taste or smell) please stay safe and please stay away.
  • It is not mandatory to wear a face mask but please feel confident to wear one if it makes you, or anyone in your party, feel safer.
  • Please remember to disinfect your hands regularly.
  • Feel free to throw open a window or door to enjoy from the comfort of your own home.
  • If you want to come out onto the street to see the artist please consider safe distancing.
  • According to government advice you are allowed to sing along at events if outside.

2020 Donations
In 2020 we raised £940 which was donated to The Choir With No Name with a small proportion going to participating musicians - many of whom have seen their income evaporate since the pandemic.
CWNN Brighton is run in partnership with Brighton Housing Trust, who provide essential housing, advisory and wellbeing services for people affected by homelessness in Brighton & Hove, as well as other areas in Sussex.
"We all know how painful it has been to see the paralysis of live music over the last months for music makers and for fans of live music. We hope this can reconnect us, even in the smallest of ways. What could be more uplifting than listening to live music from the safety of your doorstep?" - Freya Wynn-Jones (Choir Director and Event Organiser)
