Doorstep gigs to connect distanced communities
The Advent Sessions launched in December 2020 in response to the ongoing pandemic, heightening of restrictions and a desire to support musicians and spread festive cheer. It brought neighbours together for a series of 15 doorstep gigs in the lead up to Christmas, allowing live music created by the community, to be performed for the community, all from the security and warmth of your home.

Scheduled in and around the Hanover community of Brighton, audiences of close neighbours were invited to throw open a door or window and enjoy a performance for the road.
'I've been isolating for a year. Hearing music on my doorstep lifted my spirit.'

DONATE
Donations are now closed.

This years Advent Sessions raised £940 which was donated to The Choir With No Name with a small proportion going to participating musicians - many of whom have seen their income evaporate since the pandemic.

CWNN Brighton is run in partnership with Brighton Housing Trust, who provide essential housing, advisory and wellbeing services for people affected by homelessness in Brighton & Hove, as well as other areas in Sussex.

"We all know how painful it has been to see the paralysis of live music over the last months for music makers and for fans of live music. We hope this can reconnect us, even in the smallest of ways. What could be more uplifting than listening to live music from the safety of your doorstep?" - Freya Wynn-Jones (Choir Director and Event Organiser)
COVID-19 GUIDELINES
We are organising this event following government guidance. To keep this event safe and fun for all involved please follow the below guidelines:
  • Next year, we would love to see all of you but this year, these gigs need to stay small and intimate for closest neighbours. Where possible we encourage you to throw open a window or door to enjoy from the comfort of your own home.
  • If you have had any symptoms (high temperature, a new continuous cough, a loss/change of taste or smell) please stay safe and please stay away.
  • If you are outside, we ask those of you that are able to, to wear masks.
  • In the case of extreme cold or rain we will reschedule.
  • Please remember to socially distance at all times and stay within your household bubbles.
  • Don't forget: hands, face, space.
  • According to government advice around carol services, guidelines if you are outside you are allowed to sing along. Please maintain safe distancing at all times as singing does create more aerosols.
